Dyan Gershman - Corporate Attorney and Founder of Gershman Law
A corporate attorney with over 30 years of experience in mergers and acquisitions and commercial transactions, Dyan Gershman is the founder and partner of Gershman Law, PLLC, a New York City-based boutique corporate law firm established in 2014. Through the firm, Dyan Gershman advises U.S. and international mid-market businesses, large corporations, and start-ups, on a wide variety of corporate matters, including acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, technology licensing, and general commercial matters. Her firm also provides “outside general counsel” services to companies requiring ongoing support with legal issues arising from their business operations. Dyan Gershman is fluent in French, and conversant in Italian, and has substantial experience working with non-U.S. clients.
Prior to establishing her firm, Ms. Gershman served as Executive Counsel, Transactions and Finance at General Electric Company, where she advised senior management and led complex domestic and cross-border transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and strategic alliances. Her work included GE's joint venture with Comcast involving NBC Universal, leading to the sale of NBCU to Comcast, and the sale of GE Advanced Materials to Apollo Management, as well as transactions involving GE Healthcare and other GE businesses. At General Electric, Ms. Gershman’s performance earned her the prestigious CEO Award for Outstanding Performance. Prior to GE, Ms. Gershman was head of M&A and corporate law worldwide at Bristol Myers Squibb, where she led a broad range of complex corporate transactions, and for her performance she was awarded BMS’s highest honor, the President’s Award. Ms. Gershman began her legal career at the global law firm Jones Day in its New York City offices.
Ms. Gershman earned a juris doctor, cum laude, from Boston College Law School and a bachelor of arts, cum laude, from Colorado College. She also completed a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship in Paris, France, focused on French architectural historic preservation. Admitted to practice law in New York and Florida, she belongs to numerous professional associations, including the New York City Bar Association and the New York Women's Bar Association, where she has served as co-chair of the Advance the Status of Women in the Profession Committee.
